Norwalk Hospital announced that it has received an extraordinary pledge of $5 million from Mr. and Mrs. David Komansky of Westport to help accelerate the creation of our cardiac and vascular center. Geoffrey Cole, president and CEO of Norwalk Hospital, expressed gratitude to David and Phyllis Komansky for their generosity. “Your magnificent gift will enable us to establish the David and Phyllis Komansky Cardiac and Vascular Center which will provide comprehensive multidisciplinary cardiac and vascular services to address the needs of patients in FairfieldCounty. “We are pleased to support the Cardiac and Vascular Center at Norwalk Hospital. This is a service that our community needs and we hope that this will be the beginning of a landmark center,” Mr. Komansky said. The David and Phyllis Komansky Cardiac and Vascular Center at Norwalk Hospital will include: a new angiography suite for interventional radiology, a state-of-the-art cardiac and vascular laboratory, a sixty-four slice CT scanner, which enables a non-invasive diagnostic exam to assess coronary artery disease, other innovative equipment, a new resource center for patient education and renovation of non-clinical space in the new center for patient comfort. Norwalk Hospital offers a broad spectrum of cardiac services and recently recruited internationally known leaders in vascular surgery, interventional radiology and interventional cardiology. The hospital submitted in December a Letter of Intent to the State of Connecticut Office of Health Care Access to offer emergency angioplasty. The hospital currently offers diagnostic cardiac catheterization to diagnose blockages in coronary arteries, cardiac ablation to repair irregular heart rhythms, implantation of pacemaker devices to maintain and regulate heart rhythm and implantation of defibrillator devices to automatically terminate and correct life threatening arrhythmias. The hospital also provides angioplasty for peripheral arterial disease. These services complement other extensive diagnostic, prevention and treatment services. “We have outstanding physicians and staff and as technology evolves, we need to continually strengthen our existing high quality cardiac and vascular services,” Mr. Cole said. “The generosity of Mr. and Mrs. David Komansky enables Norwalk Hospital to provide the best technology and the best services possible for these patients. We are deeply grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Komansky’s for their philanthropic leadership and their vision.”
